History Curriculum Rationale

Aims: At EPT we provide an inclusive history curriculum that builds on our pupil’s understanding of British and world history.  Our history curriculum begins in EYFS and teaches key vocabulary and concepts of continuity and change; cause and consequence and similarity and difference.  We develop these concepts through themes such as power, settlements, local British and world history, trade and culture and the rise and fall of civilisationsand empires.  Our curriculum is not solely about historical knowledge, but it encourages pupils to engage in historical inquiry, using their knowledge to understand how historians have explored the past. By the end of KS2 our curriculum ensures pupils gain a broad knowledge base, building on their previous knowledge to develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of historical concepts and topics.
