Spanish Curriculum Rationale

Aims: Our aim throughout our school, is to deliver a high-quality language education to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.  

The teaching enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech (KS1 –KS2) and in writing (KS2). It also provides opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read literature in the original language. Language teaching provides the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.  

By learning Spanish, pupils will have an awareness of the multicultural and multilingual world and will introduce them into an international dimension, giving them an insight into their own culture and the diversity of the British society through exploration of another. 

Our goal is for them to be passionate, curious and confident about their own foreign language learning abilities when they finish the primary school phase of their education.
